My goal was to not invest a lot of time and effort in the minis I got for gaming with the girl, but I couldn't stand to let them be ugly (well, uglier than orcs are by nature).



I am definitely a fan of the magic dip now. Hopefully it will do a good job protecting the paint.

The classic magic dip is Future Floor Wax tinted with a black or dark gray paint or ink. I used the Minwax Polyshades option, which is a tinted polyurethane. It was about $12 for a 1-quart can, but that should last me pretty much forever. Apparently the Tudor color is the best, but the closest I could find was Antique Walnut. I don't know how good it would look on something less gritty than orcs, but in this case I was pleased.

Yes, they're the GW LOTR Morannon orcs. Not bad for plastics.
