I got back into Dad’s workshop this morning and finished up my new pilgrim staff.
- In the shop. Dad has a lot of tools.
- The (mostly) finished top. It was sanded smooth, then finished with “golden oak” Danish oil and paste wax.
- The top of the broom handle was a bit too large to fit in the hole we drilled in the top, so Dad built this router jig to shave the top of the broom handle down.
- Test fitting the handle in the socket.
- Sanding the top of the broom handle.
- The top of the broom handle, ready to attach.
- The top end after cutting off the excess.
- The finished top end.
- I decided to sand down the broom handle and refinish it to better match the color of the top. I used a piece of wood with a hole drilled in it, some other blocks and clamps to make a jig to hold it during the finishing process..
- The completed staff.
- A close up of the top.
