So, do I want to teach my 15th century Italian men's clothing class (aka "GQ: Gentiluomini Quattrocenti") at Pennsic again this year? Maybe something else? Any requests from internet land? I'll do a couple of dance classes too, I assume, but those don't count.

I've returned safe and sound from another Pennsic. It was a busy war this year, so hopefully I won't forget anything important. I got to take [livejournal.com profile] serafinalamanni to her first Pennsic, which was a lot of fun.

A $9 pair of shoes from Target hacked up and converted into faux 16c shoes, and one of 3 woven silk points with brass aglets I whipped up yesterday.

The original pilgrim's bag I made many years ago was just something to kill an hour before leaving to pick people up to go to Pennsic 35. Little did I know how useful it would be, both for carrying stuff and displaying all the dingle-dangles I've collected over the years. I've never been especially happy with it though; the fabric is too fancy for what it is, and the flap is lopsided (not that anyone but me really notices). Either way, I decided it was time to make a new one. I used the wool twill that I ruined by fulling it, which isn't good for a whole lot else. The edges are decorated with a blanket stitch of orange cotton crochet yarn, both to be pretty and to help stabilize the unfinished edges some. I may end up tying a knot in the strap to shorten it up a bit, as it stretches when the bag is filled. I transferred all the old badges to the new bag, and moved the ones that I've traded for to the strap.

I finally got my camera out on Friday before we left. I didn't get a whole lot of pictures, but it's better than nothing.

Pennsic 38

Sonnets

I wanted to celebrate the fact that there would be two reigning queens at Pennsic this year with an interest in dance (Eridani of Trimaris and Judith of Drachenwald), so I decided to emulate Caroso's practice of writing sonnets dedicated to women of high station. I laid them out as two facing manuscript pages, written in a humanist hand with a relatively simple illuminated initial. I presented them at HRM Eridani's River of Stars ball on Monday evening.

This was, I think, the best Pennsic yet for me. I'll try to recount it as best I can before all the memories float away from me.

Back from Pennsic. Alive. If I missed anything important in the last week, let me know in the comments. I missed you all!

Will post about the war in the morning.

I'm going to resurrect this meme from a few years back:

Where are you camping, and where else will you be findable?
I'm camping with Cynnabar this year, closer to the middle of the action than usual. I'll be in the dance tent most of the time, as usual, but I won't be as tired when I get there.

When are you arriving?
Saturday afternoonish (8/1)

What fun things are you planning to do?
Dancing, teaching dancing, catching up with old friends, and hopefully putting faces to some of your names. :)

And, if there's any chance I haven't connected LJ names and SCA names, what's your SCA name?
Lorenzo Petrucci

Okay, I've finally done the pre-Pennsic clothing inventory. I think I have my packing list mostly figured out, as well as my list of stuff to make:

Packing List )

So the sewing I have yet to do is:
* 5 pairs of brache (4, but that's enough)
* subligaculum
* reinforce seams on old shirts
* cut and hem toga
* raise linen doublet waistline (not necessary)
* another pair of linen hose

I think that's doable.

It's early still, but better to get things done sooner than later, right?

Things I Need To Make:

2 15c camicie
1 16c camicia
4 pairs of brache
1 unstructured giornea
1 cioppa (maybe)
2 seat cushions

I'm sure there's some other stuff I'm forgetting...

Where are you camping, and where else will you be findable?
Azami Ancien, way on the north end of the Serengeti. I won't be there much unless I'm sleeping or changing clothes, though. Mostly I'll be at the dance tent and the barn, or wandering around.

When are you arriving?
Early Saturday morning (8/12)

What fun things are you planning to do?
Dancing, teaching dancing, making a cotehardie for [livejournal.com profile] grinnellian2001, maybe distribute the last of my books.

And, if there's any chance I haven't connected LJ names and SCA names, what's your SCA name?
Lorenzo Petrucci (until recently known as Pyotr Lyagushka)
